So if someone writes Amsterdam, Ne me quitte pas, Au suivant, Le Moribond, Ces gens- la, La Statue, Marieke, La Fanette, La Mort, Mathilde, Quand on na que l'amour, Le Tango Funebre, Mon plat pays, Les Bigotes, Le pendu, Vesoul, La valse a mille temps, Orly, La chanson des vieux amants, and, and, and,…, is forever revered for the most enigmatic life performances, and gets covered by Scott Walker, Frank Sinatra, Mort Shuman, Nick Cave, Iggy Pop, Adamo, Joan Baez, Shirley Bassey, Bellowhead, Blink 182, Glen Campbell, Belinda Carlisle, Jose Carreras, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Neil Diamond, Celie Dion, Nina Simone, David Bowie, Marc Almond, Terry Jacks, Ute Lemper, Nirvana, Sheena Easton, Marianne Faithful, Engelbert Humperdinck, Eartha Kitt, Cindy Lauper, Vera Lynn, Barry Manilow, Rod McKuen, Alison Moyet, Olivia Newton-John, Sandy Shaw, Dusty Springfield, Sting, Dionne Warwick, and even Westlife (!), one still does not make Sam's Top 20 singsongs, because…?
Maybe because one is neither American nor British?
Must do better, Sam. Homework for you, find out for yourself who I am talking about.
Sop singer/ songwriters like many other genres are very subjective. If you do not like what they have to say then it is hard to like them. There are some Singer songwriters like Bob Dylan than I might put lower on my list than some because my worldview is different. As a Christian, my favorite singer/songwriters are all Christian (Rich Mullins and Keith Green are two of my favorites). Another person might be really into social justice and thus are more into Dylan and the singer songwriters from the 60's.
interesting, a lot of those are before my time… ie when you have to pull out black and white photos lol. are you more into music or film? just curious since I saw your masters thesis.
Get over plastic ono band
Joanie Mitchell in the top 10

For your consideration – James Taylor, John Denver, Harry Chapin, John Mellencamp, and Van Morrison.

Leonard Cohen? Tom Waits?
I had hope you might have Tom Waits up there, since you mentioned storytelling.
Good List.
For this sort of stuff, if you want to use google, using google slides would have been a better presentation
No Joni? I respect it but bro
Hate to be that person but definitely get annoyed when black people don’t make these type of list. You legit did a non bias well rounded list. Salute.
Gotta have Bob at the top. Holy shit that little story at the end was really cool!
Elton John was NOT a singer/songwriter, Bernie Taupin wrote his songs.
