here is a really reaaaalllly bordderlineeee uselessssss video of me trying to explain my songwriting process that i absoutely do not even understand myself so idk how to explain it to you but i tried my best.

to be honest, the best way to get good at songwriting is just by listening to CRAP TONS of music, really really listening to the patterns, and just by practicing a lot lot lot. the first few songs you write will make no sense. don’t worry. it’ll make a lot more sense five years down the road! don’t! give! up! (unless songwriting just isn’t something u wanna pursue heh then u can probably focus ur attention on things you like more ya know u do u).

anyways this video was confusing.

love ya!

  1. The best art comes from deep diving into uncomfortable feelings and memories. Those thoughts that we push away, and consciously decide to ignore because of the upset they cause.

Digging into why you feel a certain way, and accepting the discomfort for a moment will help you describe what it is and figure it out.

It’s therapy, but also an amazing song writing tool, because the little things work together towards the main concept of a song. It will be very unexpected, but end up making the song so much better.

Also google synonyms/antonyms. Repetition, a no no. Expand.

I’ve thought about selling my art, but idk, it’s just mine for now. It’s a therapeutic hobby for anyone. If you feel funky, write something, and it’s immediately relieving.

  2. I mean this video started off kinda bluntly saying
    'idk how srry ?'
but unexpectedly turned out to be the most useful advices for me bc I also frequently getting those shower thoughts songs
and I love the mindsets here tysm wish you'd make videos about song writing and the progress again in near future ??

  3. this actually helped a lot!! i always came up with little random tunes in my head too and i've came up with lil lyrics in my head and there's so much i wanted to write about but I never knew how to start so that's why i barely wrote any songs :(( I wanna become a songwriter when im older (writing songs for other people and myself, i don't wanna be a music artist cause too many people will know me ??) and I wanted to start moving towards that cause songwriting helps me express myself too !! thank you for explaining this, this is actually how my brain works too LOL

  4. Heres a song im working on if anyone wants to read 🙂

    bareness
    Verse 1
i think im losing any control
i used to have but it feels so close
i think my minds become static
and im watching as the film rolls
    and i think somethings wrong
    with the way i think
    it cant be coincidence that
everyone i come to love leaves

    Pre-Chorus
and not to be self centred
but i think im an afterthought
    and usually id say
    it doesnt bother me alot
    except for when i realise
    the missing company
    the quiet of the silence
    of what used to be

    Chorus
and now this empty space is crowded
    with reflections of myself
    trying to find purpose
    by blocking out the hurt
a drink or two's no harm
until i take it too far
    but is the breakdown worth
the split second in the dark?
    and i think i need
    a new way to cope
    im hurting myself
    by letting shadows too close
and the space is now empty
    walls are hollow
    the bareness just always
    seems to follow

    Verse 2
always sitting outside the inner circle
    watching conversations heard
    mostly thinking to myself
cant seem to get a word
so tell me how to escape
this magnetic black hole of delusion
    or is it too late
    to change the final conclusion

    Pre-Chorus
    and not to be dramatic
but i think im standing by the side
    called on just as
    we run out of time
    and i realise now
    opportunities missed
    the quiet of the silence
    starting to hit

    Chorus
and now this empty space is crowded
    with reflections of myself
    trying to find purpose
    by blocking out the hurt
a drink or two's no harm
until i take it too far
    but is the breakdown worth
the split second in the dark?
    and i think i need
    a new way to cope
    im hurting myself
    by letting shadows too close
and the space is now empty
    walls are hollow
    the bareness just always
    seems to follow

    Bridge
it kind of feels like im stuck in time
except its my heart thats on the line
no matter what i do to try to prevent
always seems to catch up in the end
and i wonder do they see it too
the depth of loneliness the hidden truth
but ill smile and mirror smiles of "friends"
knowing well that im the elephant
and i wish i had the guts
to wave surrender to my stubbornness
ask the jury where i doomed myself
but i cant trust anyone to hold my hand

    Outro
and now this empty space is crowded
    with reflections of a stranger
let the shadows to close now
    theyre suffocating her
i guess took it too far
    and now everyone is gone
i think i blinked for a little too long
    the bareness just can't help
    but follow

  5. Conan, thank you for this video. After 3 years of abuse I’ve left my ex and have decided to basically write a take down song about him and release it on his birthday <3 revenge is so sweet and will now sound beautiful thanks to your help

  6. So basically, he's saying
How to write a song: Just use a tune that pops into your head
Me, never had any tunes in my mind my entire life: "Oh so that's why you're a songwriter"

    Instead, I draw something.
I like animation so if I hear something, like a music, I can quickly imagine stroyboards, like how that scene will look like.
And I think there's an interesting connection to this.
I also heard Web Toon creators tend to see something or remember something in photos, while for me, it has always been a small clip, a video so…drawing a comic book was hard for me cough
