I&#8217;ve been writing for around six years now, and I just started recording, but my melody is lacking. I like Pop, R&#038;B, and Smooth Jazz. I&#8217;m always impressed with the songs you play at the start of each of your lessons. Can you make a brief list covering some advanced melodic phrasing techniques?<br \/>\nChuck B. &#8211; Hartford, CT. USA <\/p>\n<p>A: There are definitely a group of predominant principles that musicians need to hold with high regard when it comes to phrasing. My top three of these they are&#8230; #1, the Application of Phrasing Devices. These include; bends, hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, grace notes, trills, harmonics and other phrasing tools&#8230; #2, Altering a Melodies Rhythmic Meter. This could be as simple as building up, or breaking down a phrase into lesser, or greater rhythmic meters&#8230; And, #3, Thickening Parts to make them beefier and fatter sounding without altering their structure.
