The Top 20 Songwriting Secrets of Professional Rappers (FREE VIDEO COURSE): https://freestylefortnight.com/top20songwriter

So, last week we covered overall songwriting tips and techniques for the year 2020…

And while there was a lot of great info in that video fusing rap with mainstream music…

(Because genre-bending is key)

People wanted a little bit more of a rap specific vibe to the material, so I’ve decided to give a break down that is specific to hip hop songwriting.

The format we’ll use is your typical writing session.

Last note before we begin: this format is for you assuming that you WRITE your lyrics down in some form.

It has become increasingly common to record the whole song while not sitting down to write and recording it a bar or two at a time.

This is a great system for many artists, but we’ve decided to use a formula that will work for any “form” of Hip-Hop.

So, without further ado, let’s get into:

  1. I’m used to writing in 20 minutes and taking about 20 minutes to memorize, I keep getting stuck trying to freestyle off the top ( that’s not what I’m used to) I’m challenging myself but I keep sounding like not myself and it’s not the best flow ?

  4. Thanks for this vid. If you want, keep an eye out for my track Good Girl in the coming weeks. I do most of what you have said in my writing but I still need to work on my mixing…which this coming track is probably more on the vocal mixes. And I think the next one will be a good one. The current working name is Gunshots. The beat is done and now it's lyrical time.

  5. I would like to perform live but I live in Tijuana (México) and like, no one is gonna understand my raps since I rap in English, I do have a visa tho, sad thing is, I have 15 years old so I can't drive there, and my 20yo bro doesn't has a license yet. Nothing is impossible, but it is hard to perform here or outside here; And it bothers me the fact that I know I got no stage-fear

  7. So I've been studying lyrics. Could anyone tell me what lyric writing technique this is?

From: Say Goodbye Hollywood – Eminem

I thought I had it all figured out, I did

I thought I was tough enough to stick it out with Kim

Another example from: Soldier – Eminem

Never was a thug, just infatuated with guns

Never was a gangsta 'til I graduated to one

What is that called when he repeats the "I thought I _____" and "never was a _____"

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
