My goal is to show you a clear path to coming up with your own songs including writing chords, melody and lyrics. Songwriting can be incredibly fulfilling, but it can also be quite frustrating! Here we look at some practical ways we can deconstruct what makes a great song and how we can start working our songwriting ‘muscle’.

Hello, I’m Joe – I’m a guitar player, singer-songwriter, producer, recording engineer and teacher!

On this channel you’ll find my original songs, covers and solo fingerstyle guitar arrangements. My favorite music doesn’t fit neatly in a box so you may hear me play folk, blues, jazz, & classic rock – you can call it what you want; I feel honored to speak this timeless language of melody, harmony & rhythm.

I was born on May 25th 1991 in Kempsey, NSW, Australia. Since 2010 I have been based in the US and currently live in the Rocky Mountains of Montana with my wife, Genevieve (who teaches illustration on YouTube!).

I play Maton acoustic guitars, made in Australia (just like me) and am very proud to have my own signature instrument, the JR Signature!

In addition to song performances, you will also find guitar lessons, chord breakdowns, TAB, tutorials, gear reviews and other guitarist related content to help you stay inspired on the instrument.

I stream high quality livestream concerts regularly, if you’d like to be notified when I announce a livestream, you can put your email in here: https://joes.lnk.to/LivestreamEmail

Please subscribe and ring the bell etc. ?
Cheers!
Joe

  1. I have lots of very cool chord progressions – w/ changes (whole "songs", but not finished) – some with basic melodies & ideas for song names. I've only finished writing a couple dozen. I'm 61 years old & started playing & writing when I was 15 years old (46 years). I've always had a fulltime job, so guitar has been a hobby.

  2. https://youtu.be/NHivdBAZkSQ Hi Joe. This is another of your great videos. Thanks for the tips. I'm a songwriter too (A link at the start to one of my tunes) I have a little tip. I like to think of the syllables of words and how the words "Bounce" or have a rhythm when you sing them. An example of this is Warren Zevons "Werewolves Of London" The line i love is "Little old lady got mutilated late last night" . Such a great line. The words have a rhythm just be themselves. I hope you have fun and stay safe. Thanks for all the help and joy you give us. Love your work. BM

  3. Wow, that was absolutely excellent and very helpful. I have played for a long time but struggled at songwriting. Thanks for sharing your insights and experience with us. You have much talent and I’ll check out some of your original stuff on iTunes and elsewhere.

  4. Nice tips! Joe I've always wondered, whats your action at 12 fret? It's super low for sure! would love to hear the millimeter amount so I can try to convince my guitar guy to set up my guitar next time 😀
