Writing good lyrics is one of the most important skills in songwriting, and working on that skill of writing lyrics will make you a better songwriter. In this video I unpack a popular song by Billy Joel, and look at the clever way he writes lyrics to connect with his audience, its about giving them enough of the lyrics, that they can finish the song off in their own head. This is powerful songwriting.

I would love to help you out with your songwriting, help you to write better lyrics, and generally help you become the best music artist you can be. Please reach out to me if I can help at all.

  1. Everything you said is exactly what I at least attempt to do with my lyrics. I write something literal and even describe some physical objects. What some might call external language lyrics. But then I describe a little bit of emotion with some degree of vagueness mixed in to keep it open ended for others to interpret or understand as they will. Thanks for the great video Craig. Maybe someday I'll send you one of my videos, so you can hear if I got it right.
