  1. Try listening to bands like slipknot, aerosmith, alice in chains, guns n roses, velevet revolver, led zeppelin, AC/DC, deep purple, queen, Sex pistols, Black sabbath etc….

  2. fear factory’s archetype album is very good. the new magnum album (princess alice and the broken arrow) is good too. plus try turisas, dragonforce, killswitch engage and battlelore.

  3. Forget them! You’re not asking about hip hop, and it doesn’t sound like you want to listen to 70s rock, so here’s the real deal…

My first intro to serious metal was “And Justice for All” by Metallica. I was into like hair metal before that, but that’s what crossed me over to the dark side. The other Metallica album to catch is “Master of Puppets.” All the others up to and including the black album are good too.

Slayer is a must. Check out “Reign in Blood” for their most brutal material, and “Seasons in the Abyss” for their most advanced songwriting.

For death metal, I woudl first recommend Sepultura because it’s not a far stretch from standard thrash, so it’s a good intro to the genre. Particularly, you want to hear the album “Arise.” From there, I’d recommend “Covenant” by Morbid Angel, “The Ten Commandments” by Malevolant Creations (if you can find it… check half.com), and “The Bleeding” by Cannibal Corpse.

Also, some of the pre-nu-metal is good. Pantera is a must-have. “Vulgar Display of Power” and “Far Beyond Driven” are their best. Korn’s first album is worth checking out. “Wisconsin Death Trip” by Static X is great, too.

    Hope this helps!
