  1. I gave it my like, just because I respect sincerity of the old bugger.
See for yourself who is behind this dying “industry”.
Middle-aged men posing as women and teens.
    Bloody pervs.?

  2. Ralph always has had great perception into the psyche of songwriters, and
any amateurs posting here that can’t hear truth here about themselves are
kidding themselves. Also, on the business and marketing level, there is
hard-earned, deep truth here. You young cats that already KNOW EVERYTHING
will never get past your own egos far enough to learn from Yoda. If you’re
so brilliant, please get back to writing masterpieces instead of wasting
    your time whining on YouTube.?

  3. ????Buckcherry “I’m Sorry” says “I’m sorry I’m Bad, I’m sorry your
blue”….nothing about Bill……He wasn’t trying to be funny in the
song….He’s saying I’m Sorry. But all in all, I liked this lecture. I
really liked the breakdown of song structure. Didn’t like the name dropping
so much, but I guess it gives him credibility. All in all, It’s worth
watching and I’d like to have him on my side for writing and “knowing
someone in the business” purposes. I’m going to watch again and take notes
this time. So, save yourself time and have pen and paper ready if your
serious about your music 🙂 Oh, and come check out my music if you get a
    chance. ?

  4. Everything he says is useful information! Do with it what you will. An
Insightful, funny and experienced professional. I learned alot! However he
does fuck up the lyrics for the buckcherry song “Sorry” haha. Happens to
    everyone, no biggy :)?

  5. I guess it all depends on what music means to you. For this guy, music
means only dollar bills. I make my living making music, but I write and
play because I can’t help it. it’s who I am, not just because I’m gonna
make a profit out of it. What he says, though practical, it’s kind of
    pathetic?

  6. Hmm..I respectfully disagree with this guy.. I think Joni Mitchell is a
pretty good songwriter. I wish I had time to watch this whole video, but
the idea that a songwriter is speaking to a woman on the radio at 7am is
intriguing, if not a tad misogynistic(?).?

  7. I met him twenty years ago and could not stand his bluntness. It angered
me. Now at age fifty-five, I see he is completely right about everything he
teaches. I just ordered his book. Live and learn, live and learn.?

  8. Murphy has a lot of great insight to convey. Where I see a lot of people
getting stuck is where Industry and Art intersect. He’s talking about how
to write for the main consumers of music. The Industry is driven by the
bottom line which you could argue isn’t the way it should be and you would
be right, but it’s the way things are. Genuine art is better in all ways,
but only a few artists achieve huge success vis a vis the Industry. I say,
go for art. Do what is best for you as an individual and for music as a
whole because integrity and creating something beautiful is always better
than money. Having said that, a writer can still incorporate many of these
ideas to further their craft. It doesn’t have to be either or, it can be
    both and.?

  9. Anyone else think he’s a little “old fashion”?
Not saying what he says isn’t valid. But just thought It was an interesting
    observation.?

  10. UNBELIEVABLE Please watch the first three minutes at least where Ralph
Murphy during one of his keynote describe us . I quote him :
” “…as a monumentally dysfunctional human being, you have a problem. The
basic profile for all of you is :
    – physically, sexually ,emotionally, abused
    – from a broken home
    – with an inability to communicate
and a desperate, desperate, desperate desired to be loved
AND martially dyslectic, that is your profile…..
…. and that is what is going to make you GREAT…”

YES. I am and I can not express how good it feels to hear this.?
