These videos are meant to break down the songwriting process into easy to use tips, techniques, and tools that spark creativity and help you apply them like the pros. I do my best to make videos that share the ‘secrets’ of writing great songs without holding anything back.

My main focus with this channel is to pass on the tools of the trade that I have learned and found to make a big difference to my creative flow and songwriting. There is an old saying that goes “everybody has one great song in them”, I hope to show you that once you know what makes a song great, you can apply it to all the songs you write. Start from the heart, follow your gut, and revise with your mind.

  1. Great channel, great content. I like the way you serve small portions. My personal songwriting advice would be: ONE: Seek silence, disconnect every potential (digital) distraction. Really allow yourself to get into a deep flow state when opening yourself for inspiration. Really get to the core of your idea / message / emotion. Meditating and walking helps. TWO: Write your lyrics and notes on paper. (Get a big notebook with enough space to scribble comments in the marge.) Get organized and keep track of different versions of a lyric. I see many young writers typing on their phones and backspacing old lines to write new ones. Always keep your old lines! You'll often find that you want to go back to your initial state of mind when writing a new song, even if you need to polish the lines or the idea. Keep all your previous versions, and alternate lyrics.

  2. Some great tips from Olivia. l write songs all the time, sometimes just in my head. I do it because it’s fun to be creative and it’s a way for me to express my thoughts.

  3. The second I listened to her "Sour" Album (especially Driver's license, traitor and happier) I got so inspired. She became my new inspiration to my dream of becoming a singer. Love her music and she's so talented!

  4. I have zero knowledge about musical instruments and singing. But I like writing poetry and songs. Sometimes I feel the music in my head playing while I am writing a song. But I can't put it visually due to lack of music skills. Can I still write songs?

  5. I'm 35 and I've been quitting for years, then coming back to it and running away every time I write a bad song. It's horrible. Today I sat and finished something. Actually wrote a song with music and lyrics and verses and a chorus. It's not great, obviously, but it's finished. I'm just terrified that I'm going to walk away and forget how to do it tomorrow.

  6. It is a contradiction forever because it’s about writing subjects people can relate to but then being yourself but then not straying from yourself and emulate your favorite writers but wait don’t do write for anyone else.
Well if you want to make $ you have to be mindful of your audience. I mean making $ doing what you love is rare to become.
Sometimes I think in rhymes or poetry, I don’t do it on purpose. It’s just who I am, I am a writer. I am a story teller.
If you grow up in a toxic household with toxic parents/family members, it isn’t easy to nurture yourself. Like I had no guidance or mentors growing up.
Like I didn’t have someone encouraging me to keep trying and to go further, I felt ashamed for my love of music. I felt shame for the happiness it brought me, because I didn’t know that it was okay to be happy.
Well that went off topic, but another story to tell that I know many can relate to. ??

  7.
