RIP David Olney (3/23/1948 – 1/18/2020)
WUWF Session at 30A Songwriters Festival 2020
WaterColor Boathouse – Santa Rosa Beach, FL

1. Bluebonnet Girl (Jack Murray)
2. James Robertson
3. Jerusalem Tomorrow
4. Running From Love

David Olney passed away during a 2nd performance at the festival later in the day. According to fellow singer-songwriters Amy Rigby and Scott Miller, who shared the Boathouse at WaterColor stage with him, Olney simply went silent while singing his third song, a cover of Jack Murray’s “Bluebonnet Girl.”

“Olney was in the middle of his third song when he stopped, apologized and shut his eyes. He was very still, sitting upright with his guitar on, wearing the coolest hat and a beautiful rust suede jacket we laughed about because it was raining like hell outside the boathouse where we were playing- I just want the picture to be as graceful and dignified as it was, because it at first looked like he was just taking a moment.” – Amy Rigby

“David was playing a song when he paused, said “I’m sorry” and put his chin to his chest. He never dropped his guitar or fell off his stool. It was as easy and gentle as he was.” – Scott Miller

  1. It is written!
There is no other Hod but the Gods man makes up out of his own vain imagination perpetrated by Satan who hates mankind- especially
The beasts of the field and all the creeping things do not have souls we are the only created who lives forever whether IN Christ or dead TO Christ
Without the mind of Christ no one is in his/her Right mind- HOLY spirit

  2. JESUS SAID’ I AM the Way the truth AND the life’
Mankind requires to get a new life- IN Christ
Man worships himself and other men incl the wo- man
Mans belief systems are mere opinions that will take him to hell which is no less real than those who think we can live like hell and then go to where ever we think cause we say so- that is someone is self centered and spiritually d e a d
Man doesn’t decide what is right or wrong
This has already been done by
    His Creator
And all things created is owned by the Master Creator even Satan can’t do whatever he wants
God uses all for His Name sake – we have none except in our wild imaginations
    You attack God not me
And there is no plea deal just a guilty verdict!
You speak about who you don’t know about because you haven’t met him
    Personally- literally
    Hate is to discriminate
    Period

  3. Wow….apologizes for pausing the set to slip away……super super intense. The ultimate in being professional, I'd have to say. Unimaginable, really.
Excellent picker and song writer…..I just discovered him today, and real glad I did!! – R.I.P.

  4. David Olney and I attended the same university (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) but not at the same time. I just read in our alumni journal that he had passed away. I was fortunate to find this video, which apparently was recorded just hours before his death. I have always connected with his music and his passing is a huge loss for all of us. Rest in peace, David.

  5. I so loved him … He performed at my Posh Venue twice…. he was such an amazing musician, an amazing man, a kind person, and and intuitive person… I miss him and am feeling sad that he is gone….

  6. for such an amazing singer songwriter to sit down and record this the day he dies, and the soul within himself…to hear such angst and reality and wisdom, and to know that he had the "widow maker" that took him out so quickly and that he apologized as he was dying whist playing his guitar is profound and humbling. He's jointed the huge musicians hall and is playing with Townes and Stevie Ray and Jimmi and Janis and John and oh so many we've lost these many decades of what I consider the Golden Age of music
