  1. Most people who actually listen to them both will say lupe is the better rapper. And ngl he is just as "aRtIStIc" as kendrick.

People dickride kendrick too much, its actually impressive.

They throw around random terms they don't fully understand to prop up their image of kendrick, rather than just appreciate him for what he actually does

He literally had to say "i am NOT your saviour" on Mr Morale just to get his fans to not deify him smh.

  2. As far as lyrical complexity, no one is better than Lupe. He's an 11th degree black belt of rap. Kendrick is more captivating as a performer. He's got a more commanding presence where no matter how good his music is he'd still be in the spotlight.

Lupe only had radio friendly songs because Atlantic wanted him to.

  3. I think Kendrick is just as dope of a lyricist but his songs are so focused on storytelling and themes that he subverts the lyrical depth for the sake of comprehension. He doesn't code his stuff nearly so much, but he also probably wasn't involved in nearly as much shit as an adult. Like, Kendrick seems to allude to actually doing a serious, potentially irredeemable crime as a teenager… but Lupe alludes to a MUCH darker past than even that. That's why Lupe's songs are quietly terrifying.

  4. Saying Kendrick isn't a radio guy is kind of like saying LeBron isn't really a scorer… yeah, it's true in that it's not really their game, but in spite of that they're still DOMINANT in their eras in that aspect of the game. Kendrick is HUGE on the radio… when he drops. But your point about people checking for stuff he does and giving it the benefit of the doubt that other artists don't receive is well taken. It's true.

  5. bottom line: Kendrick Lamar is a more appealing rapper; that is not equivalent to being a better lyricist! Lupe's lyrics tend to be cryptic and hard to understand for not only casual listeners but hardcore rap fans. I have listened to all of Lupe's albums multiple times, and there are STILL some songs i just don't understand. (Even if i refer to Rap Genius, the interpretations there are questionable also.) Hell, he made a song called 'Dumb it Down', and even therein, those lyrics were ultra cryptic to prove his point, which really didn't benefit the targeted audience… As a Lupe fan, he is too intelligent for his own good! And what he wanted to accomplish thru his music is being realized thru artists like Kendrick Lamar… what good is the message if no one understands it?

  6. I think Lupe is just as good of a lyricist as Kendrick, definitely more wordplay. Both are great communicators and Lupe is more metaphoric. I think Kendrick is the better musician. I do have more fun listening to Lupe lyrics because of the wordplay. But Kendrick really does make bangers when he is spitting.
