  1. Producer here. I thought it important to let you know I follow you're stuff religiously hahah. It's helpful. Thank you for helping out the rest of us. You didn't have to help and I for one truly appreciate it.

  2. Quincy Jones urge everyone to learn how to play an instrument. It will definitely help as you can go pretty far when composing a musical track and be able to create melody ideas off the fly like Producer Scott Storch that can just vibe out melodies and make magic with it. I use play in gospel churches as a keyboard player as it was fun but I left the church to focus more on production. Maybe some day I will return. I play a lot of jazzy keys as I'm big fan of Robert Glasper and his collaborations in Hip Hop. The tri-tone substitution was one of many things I learned playing in the church that you hear alot in Jazz and Gospel which gives it more flavor to chord vocings. I make a lot of those Neo-Soulish type beats which really comes in handly if you know your scales. You just gotta start off slow and start with the basics learning scales, learn the number sustem as I was once that kid that started out on one of those cheap Casio keyboards when I was young. Right now, I'm learning how to read and write musical notation and be able to write out Arrangments on manuscript like what Producer Ron Fair and Quincy Jones did because they inspired me how they can sit there and write out arrangments and be able to conduct the orchestra. You can never stop learning because learning is a long life process. Stay blessed. Thanks for posting this video as I'm sure it will help and inspire people.

  3. Great video. The guy explained things pretty clearly. Nice layout with showing the keys being played as well. I did mallet percussion in band, drumline and music theory in high school, but things like tritones, aug/sus, and inversions never really "stuck". Thanks DJ Pain!

  4. Like you say there's nothing wrong with expanding your knowledge – it's only gonna result in better beats / more inspiration. I haven't delved into theory yet but the Busy Works "chord code" number system really helped me

  5. This is what is definitely needed in the community more stuff on music theory. Great share and knowledge thanks guys this put so much in to perspective for me appreciate it. Especially the Tri-tone part.
