This Beginner Finger-Picking video introduces an easy, useful pattern that professional guitarists and songwriters use frequently. Landslide by Fleetwood Mac is a great example! Here’s a plan: 1) Memorize The Pattern; 2) Play It Slowly, watching your right-hand fingers carefully; 3) Gradually pick up speed while keeping your fingers relaxed (this is important!!) Lastly, judge your progress in terms of weeks, not days. Playing anything well on the guitar requires a LOT of repetition, more than you’d think, more than you’d prefer !! Stick with it! It’s worth it and you can do it !

you're a fantastic teacher. And you do it all without the any graphics. You have a wonderful way of expelling. You also seem to take a lot of joy out of teaching. thank you.
Hi Jonathan , can you give us a list of some songs that use this pattern please? Thank you for putting the time to teach us all !
So lets talk about finger nails. I'm finding much better tone when nails hit the strings but you don't appear to have nails ?

Thank you John I've learned more guitar skills from just a minimal amount of watching your video lessons than I have watching literally dozens and dozens of other YOUTUBE videos on any beginner's guitar guide and lessons! Folks pay attention to this gentleman and subscribe!!! In my enthusiastic approach and timely research this guy is miles ahead and such a nice easy going teacher!
You are too great your aura… I think others here who are confusing will hate on you ???
The pattern is called the "alternating thumb roll" for anyone who cares…first roll you learn picking a banjo.
Absolutely Love this! Thank You so much!!
Is the D pattern the same as the A minor?
Hi Jonathan, keep up the good work, you inspired me and finger picking finally got into my head.
I have been playing for about five or six years now, but you changed my vision of finger picking.

Thank you Jonathan . Great lesson .
Hello Mr. Jonathan indeed you the best Guitar tutor, you always takes your time to teach you the excellent.
17:10 finger picking doesn't work for rock? I have to disagree with you about that. I can shred, using finger picking patterns from bluegrass and folk. Twisting around the music you've learned over the years is how new music is created, and where your sound and style come from.
On another thought, I think this is a great beginner lesson. I watch videos like this, looking for videos to send my nephew…. This is definitely getting sent to him.
Thank you so much for these great lessons.

I learned to play the Beatles song by listening to two different YouTube videos.
I know the name of the song. Do you know what song I listened to?
The video is called "TIGER WOODS TIGER WOODS-2"
