Each time a song streams on an interactive service like Spotify, Rhapsody, Beats, Slacker, Rdio etc the songwriter earns a royalty. Learn why, how much and why you may not be getting all (or any) of it.

  1. Does this mean a gas station can send a Notice of Intent to the copyright holder and press their own copies of CDs with the artists name handwritten on the disc and its all technically kosher?

  2. Hey Camera guy..!! When he is pointing at the screen and is talking about something on the screen, SHOW IT…!! we youtube people are not physic (facepalm)

  3. Jeff is truly one of a kind. A cornerstone and an advocate for artists who are serious about building a music career. It's crazy how these companies get away with such theft and avoid being accountable while making billions off of us. We need to raise up enough people to bombard these crooks and force them to not only change the system, but BUILD the necessary infrastructure that properly pays the people who are owed money for their property. If homosexuals in America (who are an extreme minority) can come together in unity fighting so hard that their voice reached the supreme court and won the fight to make gay marriage legal in America, then there is NO REASON WHATSOEVER on God's green earth that artists can't unite and make these people FIX the issues of theft that is happening against artists. Because their is way more artists in America than their is gays, I can promise you that right now. So yah, thank you for all your help Jeff! Your seminars, videos, and teachings are extremely helpful and overwhelmingly inspiring. I promise you your words are not falling on deaf ears. We hear you!!! It's a lot to process, and even more to understand. But blessed is the man or woman who has a passion to learn this stuff!! For they will be paid.

  4. Bit late in on this one, great presentation Jeff and thanks for the hard work. Seems things have not improved since this event. Here is one for you guys! Track I produced for an artist released via Audio Sparx USA (no laughing please) for film and TV! over 65,000 streams on their Spotify account alone of this track. He received a notification that he made a total 17 dollars on this over the last 2 years! but they can't pay out less than 25 dollars at a time, you have to smile.

  5. Questions.. So if I write a song, record it, it's under 5 minutes and I have my distribution company (DistroKid) put me in iTunes, Spotify, Deezer, etc, do I get the 9.1 cents under the compulsory license? Or do I have to get it in stores myself without a distribution company to receive the 9.1 cents?

  6. I am a songwriter and wrote several hits used by other artists ,"stolen", and I didn't get any penny of it.Stolen from me.How do I get the money because there must be data of my appearances in the past.I am swimming …conclusion no any protection for my work, no incomes for me…What must I do to get income…

  8. Attention Jeff Price: Thank you for bringing the serious problem to my attention, I'm a songwriter and have a lot
of songs but I have not yet started my journey into our beloved Industry, can we the artist bring a class action lawsuit
to force the Music Industry to fix the problem without killing the industry ? or is there another way to get justice ?

  11. Quick question. I'm signed up with my PRO. However, I've been feeling like signing up with CDBABY pro or Tunecore's publishing services as I feel they have a global reach. Any advice????

  12. Hello Jeff,

I firstly want to thank you for all the great work you are doing for independent artists, writers and self-publishers. I feel completely secure in the knowledge that you've got my back, as a newly emerging artist and composer. Based in the UK, I've recently joined the PRS, copyrighted all of my songs, stories and illustrations and amnnow ready to release my children's songs and wondered, firstly, who you would likely choose to distribute your music through and secondly, regarding to my stories, in your opinion, is it possible to protect the format of my stories, and if so, how? Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

    Warm regards.
    Sarah.
