Oh I’m with you there- Smokey’s talents were just unbelieveable. When I read about Connie Haines and her attitude toward singing at Motown, I really gained a lot of respect for her. It would be like Tony Bennet? being told to perform Hip Hop because that’s what’s selling today. Connie was a generation removed from most of Motown’s artists, but she had fun with the material. I like how you write too that she makes “What’s Two…” her own.
Brenda- yes! “Chilling” is the word for her vocals!
Brenda Holloway’s cover of Mary Wells “Operator” in my opinion is the better version of the song her chilling vocals and adlibs at the end make it for me. Very seductive and sexy!
Connie Haines cover of “What’s? Easy for Two Is So Hard for One” is great she takes a R&B song and make it her own I like that about her vers. The Tempts and Eddie’s version of Carolyn Crawford’s “My Smile” is very beautiful I love it! Smokey is an amazing talent he is definitely the TRUTH!!
That he is! A genius. Smokey deserves every single credit, accolade and praise that comes his way, as well as his fellow Miracles who co-wrote many of those amazing hits and album tracks. The way that? man’s mind worked when it came to the use of words, it still makes my mind go a bit in circles!
