Amnesia—a term typically reserved for describing the partial or total loss
of one’s memory, is used here to describe the mental, physical and
emotional disassociation with a previous lover. Justin speaks in a very
sensual way about the way the relationship turned cold and how he now feels
about the other person. Using very vivid imagery, he finds the words to
explain what has happened in his heart and mind. Repeated allusions to
“cold” suggest that not only is the relationship over, but has been pushed
so far into the outskirts that the connection is simply cold and dead, like
one may have with a common stranger.?
