“Only 3% of people are born with perfect pitch. If you are not born with the ability, then you cannot develop it.”
This is a commonly repeated myth. It’s simply not true. While it is true that only a small percentage (not necessarily 3%) of people appear to have the ability of perfect pitch “naturally” this does not mean that other people cannot acquire this skill through the proper training techniques.
Perfect Pitch Can Be Developed
Perfect pitch, just like it’s brother relative pitch, can be developed with the right methods. There is now ear training software which anyone can use to develop both a great sense of relative pitch and the amazing skill of perfect pitch. All it takes is to use the software on a regular basis in order to develop the skill. It’s just like any other musical skill such as playing the guitar or playing the piano, it can be developed with practice.
Improvement Of Musical Abilities
Of course acquiring the skills of relative & perfect pitch with ear training can greatly improve your musical abilities. It make you a better piano player, a better guitar player, a better violinist, a better trumpeter, a better singer, a better songwriter, a better music producer. It can even make you a better music listener! You don’t have to be a musician to love music of course, perhaps you want perfect pitch just so you can appreciate music even more than you already do. Not matter what your interest in music, ear training is essential to take it to the next level.
