  1. In other interviews he said the chord progression comes first and then the melody. Both he find easy but the lyrics he said were an other thing. For lyrics I’ve heard he uses a technique reffered to as “cutting”. It is said that lots of his lyrics that are more on the cryptic side where fabricated using “cutting”. There are many approaches to do it. You can take a text you like, copy it, cut the words out and put them in a pile in front of you. Then arrange them in the fashion you like. You can complete them with your own words or with expressions that are typical for the music genre your into. Or you write a text on your own on every topic you’re up to and use the same collage like approach on that. It is a good way to start the creative process because you don’t have to start from scratch. Plus it demystifies the whole process. That can erase a blockage and boost the capability to associate.
