  2. You know……I pay I think 14 dollars a month for family Spotify. For the longest time I felt like I was ripping off the artist to be honest. I don’t make up the rates. I’m sure this is going to be passed down in the form of higher rates. As long as it remains reasonable I don’t mind that. Back in the day I probably spent at least 40 dollars a month on cds or albums before that. I don’t have all that anymore. I have a hard drive full of about 1tb of music. Honestly I like just typing in the artist and having most of not all of their music available. I don’t feel like I have to own anything anymore. Same with movies. Dude I have Amazon Prime, Hulu and Netflix. Sometime I’ll get a digital movie on Xbox cause that’s what I use for my entertainment system. People are putting up full albums on YouTube for free. When is that gonna stop? I spent a lot of effort in my younger days trying to get somewhere with music playing in bands and all that. At some point I gave that up and now I do photography. I get how hard bands have to work these days to get by. I have friends that tour the world, and they have never had to work harder to earn money, and these are guys that were huge back in the 80s. Somethings wrong with that picture. We all knew the whole Napster thing was wrong but how much are guys even making now with the streaming? I think as usual people that shouldn’t be making tons of money are, on the backs of the artist as usual. Nothing really changed there. I’m thinking of saying bye to Spotify if that’s how they feel about actually paying people for the music they are making millions off of.

  7. Its never been easier to produce music thus its never been harder to make a living at it. Back before recorded music if you were the only harmonica player in town you could make some good money, the only way someone could hear their favorite song was to pay you to play their song for them. Musicians in the 50s used to physically attack the juke boxes. Now I know people who make a good living in music but it seems like major record label affiliation is ironically more important than ever before. Without it what happens is your work gets buried by the web no matter how great it is due to the sheer volume of music being created and released. Without having a major put their mark of acceptance on your work and giving you things like tour support and unsolicited licensing opportunities its really really tough, some people pull it off but they have to get extremely creative and live somewhere where the cost of living is extremely low.

  9. I don’t like buying content from Apple because they tend to restrict how I can access it. But I think if consumers wholesale switched to Apple that would send a strong message. Not that I see that happening….

  10. Hey man i have musicians who have an ipad but dont wanna buy apps and work mainly on recording and modulation for their instruments …make a video for that purpose that use all free apps and their interconnection …

  12. It’s good to see legislation that supports artists getting their fair share. Hope the courts back them up too. Glad at least Apple didn’t try to squeeze them.

  13. Thanks for the insightful video 🙂 I'm not a big fan of streaming. I love it in terms of a great deal for the consumer but its a bad deal for artists because they dont get the money they should. Am I missing something?

  14. These companies are full on raking money, especially companies like Google who also have no problem paying out Youtube royalties of millions to channel creators. Some channels make tens of millions of dollars per year. However they want to skip out on streaming royalties when they clearly have the revenue to cover it?
