  6. Thanks a lot for this informative video. I am a songwriter and I have good songs I want to sell. I am based in Nigeria. How do I get my songs to publishers? I have been a member of ascap for about 10years and I have not made a dyme simply becasue I don't have clues on how how to get started on making money. Please help me. Thanks and God bless.

  7. Since the standard mechanical royalty rate is 9.1 cents per copy sold, you should get 4.05 cents for each download. It is the responsibility of the record company to pay the mechanical royalties to the publisher. In this case, you are your own publisher and, if the artist is not signed with a label, the artist is the record company. Basically I think you're at the mercy of the singer who owes you roughly a dollar for every 25 downloads.

  8. Great video! So PRO's collect performance royalties. Who collects mechanical royalties for songwriters?

I recently co-wrote 4 songs with an artist/singer. We agreed to split it 50% but did not sign any physical contracts. When the artist copyrighted the songs through the library of congress my name was included. Then that artist recorded those songs with a producer. Then that singer uploaded all of those 4 songs onto iTunes so each song is being sold for 99 cents. How can ensure I get 50%?
