In this video I’ve got another great lyric writing tip for you. I’m going to show you how you can use 6 word stories to write better lyrics. In my opinion one of the hardest parts about lyric writing is taking big ideas and condensing them down into short lines that we can use in our lyrics. This video is a clever little songwriting tip that will help you practice condensing down your ideas into lyrics.

Have you ever tried writing a six word story? Have a go in the comments below
That’s true.
Superb. Thank you.
Loved watching this. Love the break down on the tv show series. Thinking about verses and even lines as scenes in the show / story or episode is an awesome concept
Thank you for this helpful post!!
I do recommend the 'Songwriting Decks' by Holistic Songwriting. The Lyric Cards actually using this idea in a very similar way!
The manic street preachers actually used the first two words of the 6 word story in their song 'yes'.
The words went " for sale? dumb cunts same, dumb questions ".

Brilliant.
great tips, thank you! Never thought about scenes inside each act pertaining to a song. This has opened my mind!
Please include samples of songs with these things
Wow this is very helpful!

The easiest thing is to just not worry about how many words there are ?????
The Art of Song says to write a six word 'story' . . . . but it is not a "story" – it is the outline of a story. A good tool, and perhaps I'm nit-picking the semantics, I would call it a six-work outline.
I'm going to try this technique and believe it is a good starting point, although I don't normally outline anything when I write songs, poems or prose. Maybe I should.
Thanks for this mate! I'm just starting to write lyrics and this 'unspoken' tip has really landed with me
Oh I love six word stories.
That's my six word story. But for real. Such a great idea!

Superb tip! I have not encountered this one before now. I can see that the six word story (SWS) is very useful for kicking ideas around and finding focus within draft lyrics but I’d be interested to see how the SWS might be expanded to a form the skeleton of a ‘typically’ structured song re: verse, chorus, bridge. The SWS is useful for a story arc but seems a challenge to translate it to the V C B format – ie we typically repeat things in the C but SWS is progressively linear – never looks back.
Great video – thanks for sharing!

I appreciate your gentle charisma in teaching. And thank you for this video. I'm trying to return to songwriting which I love to do, thinking of lyrics mostly on a drive somewhere.
Its really hard to hear you .its almost like your voice is in the background and the BG music is in the foreground. the bass in the BG music drowns out your voice that is higher pitch. bring down the the bass in the BG track. is probably a good start. If there is a compressor on the mic you may want to try to turn down the ratio and turn up the gain a hair. and lowpass filter may help the the high sound floor. Good content it was just hard to watch. It is a bit boring. I got distracted two or three three tie and rewind. Even a little more dynamic range on the vocals may help it be more interesting. keeping your voice the same tone and volume the entire video doesn't help keep the audiences attention. Hope that helps have a good one.
Superb, thank you.( I came , I saw, I conquered.)

Thank you so much for this, I am so glad I found your channel! I struggled with this a lot when I started (and still do!) but am getting better. Initially, I starting trying to wedge poems into music, which I think on reflection is writing more for the eye than the ear. Thanks again!
I failed, came back found success.
Thanks a million!!! I need this!!! _/|_
