  1. Thank you for this !!! I have written 80 songs ..all recorded and on YouTube. I usually would have a master list of words ..some words are of course more beautiful and work in layers with other words . Thank you again for this ..good advice .

  2. Driving, showering, working sometimes, are when ideas strike. And they all go into a notebook, and then into Wattpad where I develop and publish them. Because a notebook can be lost but I can access Wattpad wherever I am. My latest idea came while I drive to the laundromat to do my laundry, while it was drying I sat on-top of my car, with my phone and notepad an write down the skeleton of the lyrics, began to hum the song, tap it out and had it mostly worked out before I began to try to lay down some chords over a drum loop. And now it’s been stuck in my head for about a week.

  3. Great ideas here! One thing to keep in mind is to back up your recordings if on a digital or other recording device. I recorded so many great song ideas about 15 years ago and then LOST THE CASSETTE tape! I never found it and I know I had some gems on there.

  4. Hi Andy, I'm a singer composer too.. I have a song is called "Far Away" i just want you to listen and what is your comment of that song. I appreciate if you have suggestion.. it is part of my composing training.. thanks very much..

Please check lloyd verzosa youtube account Far Away..

  5. re: "wasteful art":

Perhaps one may have to be content simply with the accomplishment, rather than with any renown.

American celebrity Steve Allen (1921-2000) by his own reckoning, wrote 8500 songs. Perhaps a dozen were of any "note" . . .

But he did once win a bet by writing 50 a day for a week in the window of a record store.

  6. YOUNG PEOPLE now a days are so 'Lucky.' They have so much to 'Draw' on; When I was young and first starting
out there was NOTHING!!! No Karaoke, No Computers to look up great Artists like Andy, No American Idol. It was
really tough for a woman. Every Joe Banana and his bunch wanted more ideas than just letting you sing.

  7. This was awesome. I have so much fear about writting. Not sure why. I've played the piano for 30 years and I can say I am a good player. I believe it's a gift from God and I can honestly say that I have never written 1 song. I have thought about it for years but I get anxiety thinking I cant do it or it will not be good. But lately it's been a big desire to share my life with others through song.

My attention span is extremely short. Have not read a book since I was in College. So the fear of sitting down and putting my heart into paper is extreme.

This video made me really feel a little more at ease about starting.

I have so much to say. And I want to share it. Thanks for this video and thanks to everyone's messages I have been reading.
