Using backing tracks to compliment what the live worship band is doing on stage is something I’ve done for almost ten years. Although nowadays you can purchase tracks online, I’ve always made my own tracks for most of the songs we play. It’s a lot easier than you think if you know the basics of song arrangement and what sounds to look for. This is the first of two videos where I share my tips and tricks of creating my own tracks from scratch.
This video covers:
1. Why I use GarageBand to create backing tracks
2. My favorite pad sound in GarageBand (and MainStage and Logic)
3. Using a low-pass filter on a pad sound
4. Using arpeggiators to define rhythm and drive
5. Adding a synth bass to compliment what the live bass player is doing

Question: Can any of the Garageband loops be played on any other device other than an apple device? I play at a local House of Prayer (affiliated with International House of Prayer Kansas City). We have 2 hour sets and play songs and chord arrangements. My session only has two musicians. A keyboard player and guitar player (me). We have looper drum and bass. I was hoping to build nice looper tracks to back us up better then what we have. Can these be put on any looper pedal out there or do I have to use my Iphone or an Ipod or Ipad? I was wondering if I had a lightening to 1/4" cable could I record it on a some model of looper from the Ipad.
I have a Digitech Trio + which has an SD card.
If you don’t play any instruments (I do play some chords and notes but still learning) while writing original songs in garage band and using loops with a drummer in garage band how do you know which other sounds and what best sound to use to throw in as transitions and fillers in the songs arrangement?
Thanks for sharing brother
Hi Do I need license in order to create a backing track for my church?
Hi. This is a great video. Could you please do a video on how you export and incorporate the stems in your service please?
This is wonderful am now writing my worship song i think it will help me alot …..Am from Kenya in Africa
This is incredible! I want to start recording my worship songs on garage band and this helped soooo much! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this. What keyboard are you using to play your garage band?
Would this be able to replace a drummer all together?
This is awesome
How I can download this app?thankyou Godbless
This is great stuff! What about the part two you promised to "link in upper right hand corner" over a year ago?
This was great!
but what about the drums can u do a separate video on that one??
cool and creative way to do it! But this isn't worth mine or my churches time compared to just dropping a couple bucks on loop communities tracks ahaha
Hello great video and great midi keyboard stuff if you need any tips on creating stuff for your worship band I do a lot of mixing and recording tips on my channel keep making great music man and keep making great tracks
Hopefully you see this and can help me out, but how does everyone create the individual click track? I’m kind of new to all this so sorry for the simple question haha!
Hi and thanks for a great tutorial! Question: Why do you use a track for arrangement instead of the built in feature?
where can I find the legacy pack? I don't see it in garage band. Can I download it from somewhere.
Amazing Content! Thank you very great information. You should do more videos like this, if possible with the drums? Thanks again Dave!
Do you use a click and/or cue for tracking and/or playing live ? Just asking because we've been running tracks and for us it seems like the click and cued are really important, but would be interested in knowing if there are ways of avoiding it
you inspired me to give it a go
This is great info. I am hoping future parts do get into the tech a little.
Do you start by making the arrangement track? I suppose that helps guide the whole thing eh?
Cool never thought to use garage band
Great stuff. Thank you
Great stuff ! Question … with this method, it seems you need to be able to play ALL the instruments, guitar, bass, keys and drums, at least at a basic level, to midi input? Is this correct?
Thank you for this! Helps a lot, I'm gonna try this.
Good stuff bro!!! We’re in the same area of the US!!! ???
