Kirk looks like his soul is drained. Where are the ride the lightning days with bleeding solos and straight up thrash. Lars single handedly dragged this entire band down into the trash mid 90s and acts like it's everyone else's fault when he's the one treading on their creativity with monotonous songwriting

You can either free style vocals over live instrumentals which is the best way, or you can free style vocals then add instruments later. Professionals can do this either way, but as far as writing lyrics on paper then trying to put that to music, it just doesn't work that way.
