"Dorian modes are for technically anal boys with bad moral values."–Kurt Cobain, 'Journals.'
What's the name of that piece of artwork you have hanging in the background? Do you know who made it? It looks like a woman kneeling with a microphone in her hands. Thanks!
Man these videos are really fun to watch, I've been watching your lessons for ages now. I'd love for you to analyze and break down some of the time signatures in Porcupine Tree's heavier songs and Opeth's songs as well. Ghost of Perdition by Opeth and Futile by PTree have some really lovely riffs and funky time signatures. Hope you plan to cover Opeth/Porcupine Tree at some point, because I really think they've made a separate niche for themselves musically and there's a lot to analyze as to how they got there.
Anyway, love your videos and keep playing! m/
digging the engagement with subscribes Greg!
he uses gypsy progression
Sweet Voltron sword on the desk 😉
Is that an 8 string carvin i see in the background?!
I would like to see more videos analyzing the music of unschooled musicians, or maybe some unorthodox guitar players. I'm also looking forward to the Rosetta Stoned guitar lesson. I would like to hear a bit more about the 'theory' than just how to play it. Rosetta Stoned incorporates odd time signatures, displacement and polyrhythms. I would love to hear your thoughts on the song itself. Keep up the great work, I always look forward to your videos!
I totally agree, Kurt was a great songwriter, but even he would say he only had basic guitar skills
how to play like kurt cobain: just purposely play bad with distortion.
How are you finding the 8 string? I've got and Ibanez RG8 and love it, the neck is just so comfortable and the power chords you can build are huge (I especially like to drop the highest tonic down to a seventh). But yeah I agree that he had no idea what he was doing but found a way to produce a sound that resonated with him.
