this video made the most sense to me, a beginner. thank you!!!
First let me start by thanking you for the awesome tips ! I have trouble with Spanish vocabulary
I was born in the old country, I speak Spanish & English but when I'm trying write in Spanish…my brain runs into a wall. You gave me excellent advice with the Brainstorm of words because I'm constantly translating from English to Spanish in my brain unconsciously almost every day of my life and specially when in company of family fiends or when I visit the "old country", I would love to find a Metal band that can not only write but sing lyrics in English…and or Spanish…French…German…Italian…Portuguese…
like Swedish Metal bands for example most do Eng.& Swedish
Sepultura (Brazilian) had a few in Portuguese,Slayer none Tom is Chilean (I'm a huge fan) but not any in Spanish, Ramstein Eng-Ger.(fan)
I want to start or at least try writing in Spanish,in English I have no problem, specially when I'm going through my worst times emotionally ,grieving a loved one, relationships, and political lyrics just flow out…
Thank You !!! ?
that did help, thank you
so what are your bands? i'd like to listen, but this is the first and only video of yours i have seen, so i don't know.
woah, plus writing in a second language has gotta be tough
1. Come up with a song title
2. Brainstorm words
3. Run words through thesaurus
4. Run words through rhyme dictionary
5. Find a red thread and make a composition
Thanks for the advice!
Who's this guys band I wanna check them out
3 years ago but oh well thx man helped me out a lot
I’ll do all of the things you mentioned, but also look up all of those words up in an idiom dictionary. That’ll give you loads of ideas and phrases to build with!
Hey thanks I got alot from that
Are you swedish. Cause it sure sounds like it
Thank you, Ulf. These tips have really helped me understand some of the difficulties I have had in finishing a song. I have used the first step unconsciously for a while. I will be listening to the news or a Ted talk that I find interesting and hear a statement that is illuminating or enlightening on the subject I am interested in. Sometimes the inspirational statement is poetic sometimes it is not. But when I begin accumulating synonymous words and phrases as well as antonyms if the idea or subject is serious such as a song about global warming, I inevitably begin feeling poetry in word combinations. usually by the time, I finish the collection I find numerous poetic phrases that I can use in telling the story.
Thank you.
Go through all the words again
In your rhymes lexican
Maybe you don't wanna rhyme
It's cheesey but I liked rhymes
From times to times
Thank you for this video brother, it really helped me alot
poetry kinda helps
Would be cool to see another one on cadences and how they interact with rhythms in the music. Thanks for posting, man! This idea about creating a huge palette of words is super helpful
I would like to share my method: At first, I think that the singer remembers and performs a song better if he is connected to his lyrics and feels what he wrote. If you're familiar with writing poetry the things work better and easier for you. The ability to write down a story of your or someone else's past life happenings is a great benefit because it includes the emotional component that makes you more emotionally connected to what you wrote. The second thing that I consider most important is imagination, If you have ever written a book, stories, diary or poems You would know what I'm talking about. The ability to create "stories" directly from your imagination and shape it into music lyrics would give you a sense of believing in faithfulness off those happenings that you're writing about. As for vocabulary, no matter what is your native language, you need to read as much as you can, read what you like, reading foreign literature is of course a +, read poems especially because it will give you the skill to create lyrics and everything that it consists of. Read lyrics of the bands you like, songs you like, and most important train your ears and brain by listening to music.
And the last thing, I would always recommend to everyone who writes lyrics, please write as much as you can, practice practice practice, write a diary, write poems honestly and from your soul and heart. Do not avoid emotions, that's the biggest source of fuel for every art that you'll ever have. Of course, there's more to talk about but this is short and clear. Hope it helps.
