Want to be a Songwriting Student?
Song writers hold a vital place in the musical marketplace, even amongst the competing agendas of contemporary rock, indie and teen pop. The field of songwriting has grown exponentially over the past few years, providing a promotional launching pad (as well as a potentially lucrative income stream) for songwriters. This course will explore the fundamental songwriting techniques and uncover the essential tools for writing music that will appeal specifically to music supervisors, music publishers, record labels, and producers, across any number of different genres.
Diploma of Songwriting
Songwriting is a skill that is rarely taught and whether you’re a relative beginner or an experienced songwriter, you’ll learn how to brainstorm ideas, overcome writer’s block, and express yourself more effectively in words and music. Combining technical principles with pure creative expression, this hands-on course will help you find your voice, sharpen your craft, and create songs which listeners will appreciate and remember.
You’ll start by delving deeply into melody and harmony in Introduction to Contemporary Music Theory. Then you’ll explore the historical and current uses of songs in order to succeed as a songwriter in World Music and the History of Contemporary Music.
Bachelor of Music (Songwriting)
The course then moves on with curriculum designed to help you create strong, focused songs that perfectly blend your lyrical ideas with powerful melodies in Lyric Writing I & II. You’ll continue honing your craft understanding the principals of Film and TV music, while learning the key concepts when arranging band charts and lead-sheets in Arranging & Composing for Contemporary Ensembles.
As technology continues to evolve in the music industry, it is important to be technically savvy with industry standard computer software to further your career as a songwriter in today’s digital age. Music Technology and Music Production Analysis will enhance your knowledge of the latest digital score writing programs like Sibelius and refine your recording skills when recording in Avid Pro Tools.
Finally, you’ll unlock the secrets behind recording and producing your own demo song, performing live on stage and working as a team in the Specialist Project, Song Demo Production and the Ensemble Studies program. This course will also offer invaluable one-on-one weekly tutorial sessions with an experienced professional tutor and your instrument of choice in the Instrument Studies program.
With the tools you acquire in this degree, you will be able to make the most of your passion and talent, become a more complete musician and be confident in having a successful career in the music industry as the consummate artist.
