Very helpful. I would like to know how to construct the diminished chords as seen in the harmonised scale formula. Any simple method for this please?
As someone who plays guitar (having come to guitar Very Late) but has not had any Theoretical Tuition this is incredibly helpful, so "Thank-You".

Thank You soooo much. I find your style of teaching easy to get my head around compared to a number of other videos I looked at, therefore I am enjoying the learning process, I decided to enrol in a short Uni course for the person who likes to jam around on their preferred instruments at home or amongst friends and learn how to read, write and notate the things we play and develop it into a song and well I have to say I threw myself in at the deep end not knowing how to read music at all, to finding I am liking the experience, although I had reached a stage, where having to write 5, 8 bar melodies for my next assessment almost had me quitting at he thought of this, I felt so daunted, but I am driven to see how far I can get with this course, so thanks to finding your video guides on how to go about this, I feel excitement pitching in me again thanks again to your tutorials. Awesomeness…:0
thanks
I've been away from a regular practice of creating music for nearly a decade. This series was SO helpful in rekindling the fire for writing songs. The tips and ideas you share in this video series has given me a great place to start. Thanks!

Thanks! Im saving this to my new music theory playlist. cheers!
first formula is scale formula and the second one is melodic chord progression…
what is this formula/method called does any1 know?
some people like dissonance….and a musician with a good ear will create good music naturally through trial and error
thats cool
He says u dont need to know the harmonised stuff to write songs – off course u do! This forms the basis of the key of a song, without it u get dissonant music, or just no originality or variation in music – like the music of today which is more about looks than chords….. 🙁
bro man what the fuck are you doing here 😀
People in Mrs. McKenna's class watchin this like it up ;D
A chord in its simplest form has 3 tones: tonic, third and fifth (C+E+G).
In a Major chord the third is major (C+E+G). In a minor chord, the third is minor (C+Eb+G). In a diminished chord, the third and the fifth are minor (C+Eb+Gb).
In the key of C, the diminished chord is typically the seventh degree of the scale: B° (B+D+F). You'll notice that each tone is separated by a minor interval which makes the chord very unstable, hence the need to resolve it to the tonic chord C (C+E+G).
wow thanks i knew the scales but i was missing the part abt the chords, very helpful!
@jakethasnake6

@sskkarz no, you're expected to get it tattooed all over your body..
am i expected to memorize this?
@sunburst909
If you have a song that starts on a minor chord, for example say you have a song that starts on G minor. That could very well mean that the song is in the key of G minor, BUT it could also mean that the song is in the key of F major. This is a lot of theory studying and theres a bunch of videos on youtube that teach you about it! If you have any other questions, just ask
@ArnoldwilliamDow
Every minor chord has a relative major chord. If you are firmiliar with scales, An example is the A minor scale consists of the same notes as the C major scale. So A minor's relative major is C major. If you play chord progressions in C major you are also playing chord progressions in A minor. Everything is based off of the MAJ MIN MIN MAJ MAJ MIN DIM, Thats the major scale, everything in music (including minor) is based off of the major scale.
@TDWPbassistAILD yeah sorry mate my bad haha, drunken mistakes, haha
its tone – tone – tone – semitone – tone – tone – tone – semitone
@Brendonovic Yes a minor I know. first song I ever learned solo and all. whats the theory is what Im asking. if the first chord is minor instead of major how does that fall in the sequence normaly maj min min maj maj min dim?
@ArnoldwilliamDow Stairway to heaven dude! (c;
Someone answer me this: what IF your song starts on a minor chord?
