With a knack for deconstructing rock and pop conventions, St. Vincent expanded on her passion for guitar and grunge music to create uniquely original alt sounds, introducing her genre-bending vibes with her first studio album, Marry Me—an adventuresome mix of rock, electronic, and jazz—in 2007. She continued to challenge musical boundaries with her follow-ups, managing to land both critical and commercial acclaim.

In 2009, she made her chart debut with the album Actor and went on to become the first solo female artist in 20 years to win a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album with St. Vincent in 2014. Her fifth album, the critically acclaimed MASSEDUCTION, brought her first Billboard Top 10 song and another Grammy Award, this time for Best Rock Song.

  2. I’m not a musician but I watched this in one sitting (easily!) and Annie/St. Vincent had sooo many lovely nuggets of info as well as a great knowledge of music. I could’ve watched so many more hours of this masterclass??

  3. Edit* This isn't specifically about St. Vincent and went on a long tangent sorry to bog up the comments thread!

Hate to rant, but the last thing we need is more people interested in being generic pop-music creators. Last 20-25 years of music has seen it's corporatisation, with electronic music and especially the generalised pop and nu-metal genres increasingly killing music as an art form. Too much, "how do I sound like x artist", "how do I hit these high notes" and not enough about the substance, melodies or emotion. I personally love the early 90's scene, wasn't about being perfect it was about being human, vocals as well. At least I can respect many other periods of music prior to this period. Today it is more concerned with the looks, financial priorities of the label, and the writing teams for modern music rather than the local bands. Some masterclasses in authenticity are more neccessary atm imo.

  4. I do songs for fun tbrh. I want to share my art and story to people. Maybe some can relate to them. But I just want to ask, to all those who are reading this comment, how much of delay should I do before posting a new song? Like should it be 6 months once or what?
