So you have a dream of writing a country song. You’ve got some ideas. You think you could do it. But… where exactly do you start? How do you end up with an awesome, finished country song? And how do you make sure this is a COUNTRY song. How do you make sure it’s different from other genres? But at the same time… you don’t want your song to be too cliche! So, that’s why we made this video! Seth Mosley, GRAMMY® Winning Producer & Songwriter, is here to explain it.

  1. Im looking to write a country song about my grandma who’s favorite artist was hank Williams sr. Not a professional but i do know the cords you said edit( the only chords i can play ok). And the show and tell thing, got me thinking.

  2. Wish we had people around here willing to teach everything. (Houston Texas.) I'm super passionate about this stuff but don't know where to start.

  3. I am a singer/songwriter who usually writes worship music but I’ve been wanting to try country and this helped a lot!! Thank you!! (Now let’s hope I can actually get my song out there and known by people who will maybe like it and want it published!)

  4. Thank you ‘greatly’! The few seconds where you exemplified the difference between Country and Rock/Pop lyrics was a ‘great’ help to me – I have been wrestling with the syntagm and paradigm of lyrics for country songs for a long time but your explanation was VERY useful! To relate to my classical poetic ‘training’, this seems to align, in a strange kind of way, to the difference between the ‘vivid’ voice we find in Ancient Greek and historic sequence for optative.

  5. would like to visit yall. been writing for years. It's a calling and need to make it happen. strait was going to look at them but I have mixed feelings about reaching out to him after hurricane Doran. And after it destroyed our lives temporally. if I could afford to get off work I would be there to talk to yall asap. just can't get a Break.

  6. I always have trouble finding a melody. Every song I start ends up having the same melody and me singing it the exact same way as I did the other song. Does anybody maybe have any tips?

  7. Thank you so much for this video! The chord progressions we're the most helpful for me as I am starting to write country music! Do you have any advice on creating pop-country music? Like the style of Kelsea Ballerini?

  8. Thank you for the good tips! We just started experimenting in writing country
(We typically write worship music). The distinction between ‘showing’ and ‘telling’ you brought up in the video was right on point! This difference comes up in all forms of creative writing. The descriptive nature of lyrics in Country is what piqued my interest in trying my hand in it!? Thanks again! Love what you guys are doing at FCM!
